Let Go & Let God

Back in May, I heard what was possibly one of the most-needed homilies I ever needed. This homily was delivered right after Pope Leo XIV was chosen to be the next Pope. It just so happened to be right after my ACL injury as well. I had never felt God talk to me in a way that he talked to me that day. The homily explained the process of what a newly-appointed Pope goes through the day he is appointed by the papacy.

The part of the process explained in the homily that stood out to me the most, maybe because of my situation, was when Fr. Tim Kitzke explained how, before the new Pope is brought before the people, he goes into what is called “The Room of Tears”. In this room, the newly-appointed Pope is vested in white papal garments for the first time. This room is called “The Room of Tears” because the newly appointed Pope begins to feel the weight of his responsibility on his shoulders and begins to tear up. Knowing the Pope is still human, just like all of us, he surrenders his fears and pressure to God and gives him all the worries he is bearing. Then, once he is ready, the newly-appointed Pope comes before a crowd of people waiting to meet him, and he is seen waving and completely at peace. God presents him (the Pope) with a community of love once he has surrendered himself and all the baggage he is carrying.

What does this tell us? It can be rather simple.

Whatever pressure we are going through in life, whether it is relationships, career moments, financial hardship, health issues, etc. God is willing to carry it for us. Not only that, but by letting go and surrendering the weight to Him, he will give you a loving and supportive community to help you on your journey through life. I didn’t believe it was that simple until I had to go through the last few months of ACL recovery, where I had been mostly dependent on others. The community of people God has given me through my amazing fiancée, parents, friends, family, and coworkers has been even greater than I could have imagined. I could not be more grateful. So let go, and let God. 🙂
