Faith Isn't Taught, It's Caught

A few Sundays ago, I heard this quote that I’ve been discerning.
“Faith Isn’t Taught, It’s Caught”
……
I’ve always been a supporter of the fact that we must learn through experience, so this quote really resonated with me. One of my most efficient ways to learn is being thrown in the deep end and having to find my way back above water. Sounds intense, and while it is not always enjoyable, there are so many positives to it. In one of my previous blogs, I wrote about how “we’re all just figuring it out”, and it’s so true. Think about the last time you have felt the most peace and satisfaction through accomplishing a goal or finishing a project you deemed “impossible”. It’s likely that when we’ve been “thrown in the deep end” (aka unfamiliar territory), and figured it out, it is because we've taught ourselves how to kick, float, glide, and get back up to the surface. The same can be said for our faith life.
We can listen to people talk all day about living our faith, but until we have jumped in, started to get up to the surface, stumbled, and then glided up to the surface, we never really know how to live out our faith. Faith is caught through all the messy lessons you go through to draw nearer to the surface of God. All the times you thought you had it figured out, then stumbled, got back up, and kept going, repeatedly. It is about not giving up when it feels like we are drowning, because we are striving to learn how to be more like Him. Just like the apostles followed Him, and why did they jump in? Because they trusted Him. And yeah, just like the apostles, we will question and doubt. Think about how Peter doubted and was uncertain when Jesus called him to walk on water towards Him.
And he jumped in.
So, jump in.
Because faith isn’t taught, it’s caught.
