A few weeks ago, I tore my ACL, which left me with a lot of time alone to feel all sorts of emotions. It has resulted in my interest in the thoughts of the past, future, and current moment. I’ve been reading a few Eckhart Tolle books, that a friend lent to me, “Stillness Speaks”, and “The Power of Now”. Both focus on the present moment because it is all we can control. At this exact moment, as you are reading this, you are the owner of this moment, and none other.
But while you are reading this, you probably have some thoughts floating in your head about things you have to do today, what you were excited about or upset about from last week, something you saw while scrolling on your phone, where you are going next, etc. But we only live in this current moment, right here.
Where would our society be if we all just lived in the present moment? Let go of the emotions we held on to all day and just enjoyed the moment. There are so many ups and downs of emotions in our lives today. And they’re all based on holding onto feelings or acting on emotions instead of processing them.
What if we were just to “be right here”? It would probably be a lot more peaceful, our blood pressures would be lower, and we would just have a lot more appreciation for life.
So let go of those things you can’t control. Give yourself a break. Take a few breaths. What’s done is done. What’s to be will be. Appreciate where your feet are. They’ll only be in this spot at this moment.
